Peter Jex Blake is Nicci’s charismatic and energetic cousin. A fourth-generation Gisborne-born lad, with a large network of family and friends on the East Coast, means that Peter is well-established in the area and has settled in beautiful Wainui Beach just outside Gisborne city.

Peter’s previous experience operating Eastland Discoveries, “a personalised guiding business dedicated to giving visitors to the Eastland region an opportunity to experience some of the local culture and insight into the  ‘kiwi’ way of life”, plus his interests in tramping and rafting, give him an edge in the area. His passion for the beauty of New Zealand, not just his part of it, has taken him the length and breadth of the country and his latest personal achievement includes two trips over the Southern Alps. Pete is in his element in what he dubs “the most beautiful country on earth” and he would love to share his passion and interests with guests.

An interesting aspect of Peter’s guiding is that he is willing to donate the time he gives his guests, i.e. his daily guiding fee, to a locally-based cause or charity, such as the Eastland Helicopter Trust, which provides helicopter search and rescue, or a hospice that provides palliative care for the terminally ill. Guests would be able to choose from Peter’s selection of favourite charities and feel that they were truly leaving a worthwhile mark in his beloved New Zealand. Enjoy a day with Peter, tramping, climbing, or rafting, and do some good for a local cause… what could be better?

When Peter isn’t taking guests out, he lives happily with his wife in Wainui Beach, famous for its surf and sheer beauty. After running a large-scale farming operation, Peter diversified into the commercial property and storage business, along with an intensive beef and lamb finishing farm business. He guides in the summer months.
