Grant Petherick is a family friend and lives life to fish! Well, just about… at the age of 12, Grant cast his first fly into the rivers of Hawkes Bay and now, 40 years later, he is still fishing those same rivers and delights in sharing his experiences with visiting anglers.

Grant’s professional guiding began in 1986 and he has been a member of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association for the last decade, currently on the Executive Committee.

Grant worked three seasons in Alaska and guiding the guests of Poronui Lodge and Tongariro Lodge have all added to his experience. “I was Jim Teeny’s guide when he produced his well known film, “Fly Fishing for Salmon””

Locally, Grant has featured in the New Zealand programme, “Gone Fishing”, appeared on “Magic Streams Down-under”, a 12 part series on fly fishing in New Zealand, and was one of the invited authors in the New Zealand publication ” Masters on Flyfishing”.

Grant looks forward to sharing his enthusiasm and expertise with equally passionate anglers. With over 30 rivers and streams, stocked with own and rainbow trout, Hawke’s Bay is one of the most under-rated fishing areas in the North Island of New Zealand.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced angler, there is an opportunity for challenge and success in the many kilometres of uncrowded waters.
